Soft tissue and some minor orthopedic surgeries are performed at Riverside Animal Hospital.
At Riverside Animal Hospital, we schedule surgeries every week Monday through Thursday with the exception of holiday weeks. Our team of experienced veterinary technicians monitors the patient closely throughout the procedure and communicate constantly with the doctor regarding the status of the patient. As we do not staff the hospital overnight, we work closely with the local specialty and emergency hospitals to ensure the best possible care for your pet. The attending doctor will make a referral if it is in the best interest of your pet.
Non-elective surgeries are performed on an as needed basis and are sometimes referred to the specialty hospital if a board certified surgeon is recommended . The Veterinary Referral Center of Central Oregon now has 4 board certified surgeons and imaging such as MR, CT and Fluoroscopy to help make diagnosis easier and more definitive.
Post operative care is vital to your pet’s successful recovery therefore Elizabethan collars or body suits are recommended at discharge to prevent your pet from licking or chewing out sutures. Sedation may be needed to prevent your pet from being too active post-operatively and will be sent home with you. Pain medication is an important factor in your pet’s recovery. It is our goal to make sure every pet is comfortable at discharge and throughout the days ahead. Please tell us if you think more sedation or pain medication is needed after your pet goes home.
