Bend Spay and Neutering

Bend Spay and Neutering

Neutered male dogs tend to roam less, fight less and exhibit less territorial (marking) and dominant behavior.

When to spay and neuter is a complicated question that can be answered in many ways. There is some early evidence that waiting until 10 months of age and older may decrease the likelihood of cruciate ligament injury. The cruciate ligament is a stabilizing ligament in the knee that when torn, can result in pain, lameness, and arthritis. Spaying and neutering dogs to prevent unplanned puppies is a good decision in a world of animal overpopulation and overrun humane societies. Riverside Animal Hospital understands that the needs of every animal are different and that the decision of when to spay or neuter should be made on a case by case basis. As part of your puppy series, we will discuss this important topic with you so that we can determine the best time to alter your pet.
