Deworming Protocol

Deworming Cats and Dogs in Bend, OR

Deworming for Dogs:

Puppies between the ages of 8 and 16 weeks will be dewormed twice with Interceptor.

After the puppy series, we recommend a yearly fecal exam unless your pet is on year-round heartworm preventative. All dogs that travel to the western part of the state, southern Oregon, or California/ other areas of the country that have warm nights and mosquitos, should be on a heartworm preventative at least during the warm summer months.

Some intestinal parasites can be transmitted to humans, therefore parasite prevention is important for the health of the whole family.

Deworming for Cats:

Kittens will have a fecal test and be dewormed with Pyrantel at 8  and 12 weeks of age.   Outdoor cats can be dewormed bi-annually (or more frequently if they are good hunters!). You can also choose to bring in a fecal sample for microscopic examination to determine if deworming is necessary.
